Heat humidity and pop up showers could return today. With moisture in place, we could see a repeat of the isolated showers and t-storms as we saw yesterday. Highs today will again reach the lower 90's. By Saturday and through the start of next week, we will see the moisture out and hot temps on the rise. Look for mid and upper 90's by Sunday and Monday.
TEA: Hearing with BISD delayed
The Texas Education Agency announced it is delaying a hearing that will play a critical role in whether the state is able to replace the school board and the superintendent.
The hearing was set for this Wednesday and the state has delayed the hearing, known as a record review, to June 6th.
An attorney representing board president Gwen Ambres and vice president Janice Brassard on behalf of all trustees is fighting the order of the Commissioner of Education Michael Williams.
Williams ordered a board of managers to replace trustees and a superintendent to replace Dr. Timothy Chargois by June 15th.
He cites state reports indicating there is a lack of financial management in the district and a loss of public trust.
Last week a judge in Austin granted a temporary restraining order to the attorney representing the board. He says the commissioner was wrong to lower the district's accreditation. The judge ordered a hearing on a temporary injunction within 28 days. But a hearing on the accreditation was still set for this Wednesday.
The TEA said late Monday afternoon that holding separate hearings on that issue and replacing the board would be a waste of agency resources.
The agency says it would like to resolve the matter quickly but the restraining order prevents that from happening. The agency says it makes sense to consider all of the actions it might take at one time including whether the monitor should be elevated to conservator.
