PAPD responds to possible drowning at fishing pier

On 05/10/14 at approximately 1:11 a.m. the Port Arthur Police Department responded to a report of a subject in the water at the fishing pier located at 100 N. Levee Rd. on Pleasure Island. Officers spoke with the reportee, who stated a person who she was fishing with dropped personal property from the pier into the water and had jumped in to retrieve it. After being in the water several minutes the subject began struggling and calling for help. She ran to the car to retrieve a cell phone to call 911, and when she returned did not see the subject. The Port Arthur Fire Department water rescue also responded but had to suspend search operations due to poor conditions. The search will resume again at daylight.
