81-year-old Nederland man beaten and robbed in garage

NEDERLAND - Nederland Police are searching for an attacker who beat and robbed an 81-year-old man while they try to determine if the crime is linked to a similar attack in Orange County.

Watch KFDM News and stay with for updates on the investigation.

According to Nederland Police Chief Darrell Bush, at about 10:15 a.m. on May 9, Nederland Police received a call of an assault that had occurred at a home in the 700 block of South 4th Street. When officers arrived and met with the victim, the 81-year-old man told them he had been beaten and robbed in his garage. He said he had been away from home for the morning and when he returned he pulled in to his garage. The victim stated as he got out of his vehicle he was approached by a black man who beat him and robbed him of his money. Police are trying to determine how much money the attacker took.

The victim was transported to The Medical Center of Southeast Texas, then transferred to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston for surgery. The victim is in good condition at this time.

The attacker is described as a large black man in his 20's. At the time of the robbery he was wearing a black beanie style cap, a grey long sleeved shirt, and black pants. He was driving a dark colored (possibly black) Jeep Cherokee.

Anyone with information about this robbery is asked to contact The Nederland Police Department at 409-722-4965.

An elderly man was the victim of a similar attack May 8 in Orange County. Investigators are trying to determine if they are linked.
