Organization releases annual ranking of Texas public schools
A think tank that tries to improve the quality of life for children released its annual ranking of Texas public schools and many of local districts in Southeast Texas did not measure up.
This is the ninth year the organization Children at Risk has awarded a letter grade to the all the districts in the state based on standardized test scores and graduation rates.
Out of 953 Texas school districts West Orange-Cove ranked 936. That district was the only are district to receive an F rating.
School districts that earned a D rating and are in need of improvement included Port Arthur, Vidor, West Hardin.
Beaumont ISD earned a C rating and was considered average.
Nederland, Port Neches, Groves, and Lumberton were given a grade of B which are considered excellent.
And Sabine Pass ISD was the Southeast Texas school district given a grade of a ranked 17th in the state.
