Five-year-old honorary BPD officer takes oath

BEAUMONT - The Beaumont Police Department gained a very young honorary officer.

Five-year-old Raphael Ornelas is the son of longtime officer Joe Ornelas.

Raphael was sworn in this morning as the special assistant to the chief of police.

During the ceremony, Raphael's father pinned on his badge.

The child has taken part in the honor guard since he was age 3.

During his oath, the youngster promised to eat all of his vegetables, obey his parents, make good grades and attend as many Beaumont Police Department events as he can as long as they don't interfere with school.
