Orange County District Attorney John Kimbrough says the grand jury returned an indictment against Sondra N. Reed, 41, for Improper Relationship Between Educator and Student.

Reed is a former Oak Forest Elementary School teacher accused of having an improper sexual relationship with a student who was enrolled at Vidor High School.

She surrendered at the Jefferson County Jail and was released after posting $5,000 bond.

The case has been assigned to the 128th District Court.

If convicted of the Second Degree Felony she could face a sentence ranging from probation to up to 20 years in state prison.

KFDM News reporter Justin Hinton spoke Friday morning with Vidor ISD superintendent Dr. Jay Killgo.

"We're glad to see that the legal process worked the way that it has," said Killgo. "We're just sad that it all happened. Our kids are our number one priority."

Killgo says they received a letter in November describing an inappropriate relationship with several students. The District suspended Reed and started its investigation.

Killgo says between Thanksgiving and Christmas, the district found more than one allegation and proposed termination in January.

Reed appealed but later dropped the appeal. The board voted unanimously for her termination in March.

Killgo added the district's investigation found alcohol was provided to students in the Reed home during Thanksgiving break.

Dr. Killgo says in the separation agreement, Chad Reed, Sondra's husband, agreed to resign at the end of the school year. He was on unpaid leave the rest of the school year. Chad Reed taught at Vidor Junior High.
