TEA sets July 10 for second Record Review
BEAUMONT - KFDM News has learned the Texas Education set July 10 for the second BISD Record Review, this one to examine whether to uphold the Education Commissioner's decision to replace trustees with a board of managers and whether to replace the superintendent, Dr. Timothy Chargois.
The Record Review will be from 2-3 p.m. July 10 in Room 1-111 in the William B. Travis Building. TEA Deputy Commissioner
Following the first Record Review, the TEA upheld Commissioner Michael Williams' decision to lower BISD's accreditation to Accredited Probation and to elevate the Special Education Monitor, Fred Shafer, to Conservator.
The Commissioner had intended to take over the district by June 15.
In a separate matter, the BISD board is scheduled to vote Monday on whether to appeal an Austin judge's ruling denying the district at Temporary Injunction to block the takeover.
TEA spokeswoman DeEtta Culbertson says Commissioner Williams has seen the reports regarding a potential $300,000 being spent on additional legal fees by the district. These reports trouble him, especially in light of the districts current financial situation. He hopes the board of trustees will make decisions that are in the best interest of students and the district, as well as the community.
