Investigators looking for persons of interest in local bank robbery

Investigators are looking for two men in connection to a bank robbery in Newton County.

About 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, deputies with the Newton County Sheriff's Office were called to Sabine State Bank off Hwy. 63 in Burkeville for a robbery. Investigators said when they arrived, they found the bank manager stabbed in the back with a punctured lung. A medical helicopter took her to a hospital in Houston where the sheriff said she's in stable condition.

Saturday, deputies, FBI agents, U.S. Marshals and other agencies spent part of the day looking for two men investigators are calling persons of interest in Newton and Jasper counties.

Newton County Sheriff Edward Shannon said they are looking for 21-year old Xavier Clark and 20-year old Michael Byerly Clark weighs about 250 lb. and is 6 ft. tall. Byerly is 5 ft. 9 in. tall and weighs about 180 lb.

"I think there's four felony warrants on each subject right now, so we need to get these people picked up off the street," Shannon said.

The sheriff said the two men are considered armed and dangerous. Though they're not charged in connection to the robbery, they're wanted for questioning and on other felony warrants.
