Officers arrived to speak with the female who told them that the man had fired a shot at her as she was in front of a residence in the 3100 block of E. Lucas.  The female said that the man shot at her from a house in the 4800 block of Galveston.  He fired the shot across E. Lucas Street toward the female.  The female was not physically injured during the assault.

Officers attempted to make contact with the man at which point he exited the house on Galveston with a rifle.  Officers ordered the man to drop the rifle.  The man refused to comply and instead, raised the rifle toward an officer.  The Officer, fearing for his safety and the safety of citizens in the immediate vicinity, was forced to use his weapon to fire at the man.  The shot struck the man in the chest and he immediately fell to the ground.  The officers approached the man, secured his weapon, and began to administer first aid as they called for EMS.

Beaumont EMS responded and transported the man to Christus St. Elizabeth ER.  Hospital personnel listed the man in critical condition before they took him into surgery. Officers on scene did not suffer physical injury during the incident.

Detectives, Crime Scene Technicians, and officers from our Traffic Division responded to investigate, process, and document the scene.  Officers also called for Investigators from the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office to assist with the investigation.
