Concord Road projected expected to finish on time despite several issues
BEAUMONT - By Justin Hinton, KFDM News
Beaumonts Concord Road project is still expected to finish on time after a number of residents complained no work has been done.
They say they working on it, but looks like to me they ain't making any progress, said Philmore Jackson.
Sarah Dupre with the Texas Department of Transportation, the agency overseeing the project because federal funds are involved, says it may appear that the work has come to a standstill to those living in the area, but the work has never been officially halted.
She says there were some problems that arose at the end of last year that left the road empty of workers at times.
The main part was the utilities. Unfortunately the contractors couldn't do as much work as they would have liked to because of the utilities. We can't just start breaking ground if there's utilities underneath, so those utilities really had to be moved before we could really start getting into the main part of the work, Dupre said. We did have people doing certain things. It just didn't seem that way to the average public.
In addition to the utilities, Dupre said there was also a problem with the drainage system.
Some drainage had been installed incorrectly, so we voiced our concerns with the contractor, so they decided to go in and get a new crew, new superintendent and basically start over fresh, said Dupre. We definitely understand the frustration of the drivers and residents in the area and its frustrating to us too. We want to get out there.
Dupre says TxDOT received notification that the utilities had been moved at the beginning of the month.
She also said the contractor, Tradeco Infraestructura, Inc., has notified her they are ready to continue working street side.
The equipment is already out there in the roadways and well have people working out there next week weather permitting, said Dupre.
She also says its still expected to be completed summer 2015.
