Crash on Neches River Bridge sends two people to hospital

JEFFERSON COUNTY - Department of Public Safety investigators say an intoxicated driver caused a crash on the Neches River Bridge overnight that sent two people to the hospital.

DPS troopers say a man from orange driving a Ford pickup was intoxicated and speeding on Interstate-10 when he moved into the lane of another driver in a Chevrolet truck at about 2 a.m. Saturday.

Both trucks caught fire and struck a barrier. Paramedics transported a husband and wife in the Chevrolet truck to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth. They are OK.

The driver of the Ford and his passengers were not injured. Investigators say he will be charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.

The driver's name is not being released until he is arraigned by a Jefferson County judge.

Officials say the crash is still under investigation.
