Man taken into custody in connection with warrant, evading arrest

A man was taken into custody in connection with evading arrest and a warrant for possession of a controlled substance at around 9:20 a.m. in the 2700 block of Palestine Friday, Beaumont Police Department's Officer Carol Riley said.

Officers responded to a possible burglary of a vacant house in the 1800 block of Corley and when they arrived in the area they saw a man quickly walk away with numerous bags, Riley said.

When officers approached him, he fled on foot and was caught in the 2700 block of Palestine, Riley said.

He was identified as 55-year-old Kenneth Ray Jackson of Beaumont and had a felony warrant for possession of a controlled substance.

Jackson was transported to the Jefferson County Jail and was booked in for evading arrest and the Jefferson County warrant for possession of a controlled substance.

Officers were unable to locate the homeowner and authorities say the possible burglary is still under investigation.
