Criminal D.A. says BISD board cannot take action on RIF decisions at Thursday board meeting

KFDM News has learned that Criminal D.A. Cory Crenshaw has issued a letter to the Beaumont school board saying it improperly changed agenda items meaning that they cannot take action on any RIF decisions at the Thursday night board meeting.

The original agenda for Thursday's meeting contained discussion items for the RIF to take place in executive session.

Criminal District Attorney Cory Crenshaw issued a letter explaining board members needed to address the RIF in open session earlier this week.

Conservator Fred Shafer tells KFDM News the district responded, however, Crenshaw said by changing the agenda items from taking place in executive session to open session within 72 hours of the meeting, the district faces noncompliance of the notice requirements as set forth in the Texas Education Code.
