A better coverage of showers and thunderstorms will begin tomorrow with the best coverage of rain around Thursday and Friday.  Some locally heavy rains will be possible with gusty winds and frequent lightning strikes in the heavier cells.  Withe more clouds, temperatures will be a little cooler for afternoon highs.

Early voting begins for PA Council runoff

PORT ARTHUR - Early voting has begun for the June 28 Port Arthur council runoff election.

Tiffany Hamilton and Cal Jones were the top two vote-getters in a May 10 three-person race for the District 2 City Council seat. Maria Block finished third.

Early voting for the runoff election begins June 16 and runs through June 24. Hamilton received 168 votes or 48 percent. Jones took in 129 vote or 37 percent. Maria Block received 48 votes or 13 percent.

Both Hamilton and Jones said they were disappointed in the number of people voting and hoped more would cast their ballots for the runoff. Of the city's 38,600 registered voters, 2,875, or 7.44 percent, voted May 10.
