DPS releases name of man killed in Orange County crash
ORANGE COUNTY - The Texas Department of Public Safety is releasing the name of a 74-year-old man who was killed in a collision in Orange County.
Richard Shelvin, 74, of Port Arthur, died in the crash. Investigators say at about 9:20 p.m. on June 29, Orange County DPS troopers responded to the scene of a two vehicle crash on State Highway 62 at Tulane.
The preliminary crash investigation indicates that a 2008 Toyota Tacoma truck, driven by Stevan Shonn Smith, 27, of Orange, was traveling south. Smith reportedly failed to drive in a single lane and struck a northbound 2014 Nissan Versa head on, which was driven by Shelvin from Port Arthur.
Smith was transported to Orange Baptist hospital and a passenger that was traveling with Smith was transported to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont.
Both Shelvin and his passenger were transported to Christus in Beaumont where Shelvin died. The condition of the other occupants is unknown at this time. This crash remains under investigation.
