Local bank employee stabbed during robbery, air-flighted to hospital

NEWTON COUNTY - Deputies are searching three people who, they say, stabbed a bank employee in the back during a robbery, leaving her critically injured.

It happened at Sabine State Bank in Burkeville.

Newton County authorities say bank manager Trudy Woods had to be air-flighted to Hermann Hospital in Houston after she was stabbed during the robbery.

Authorities believe she had locked the bank but went back inside. That's when, investigators say, one of the suspects approached her and stabbed her in the back. She reportedly suffered a punctured lung.

Authorities say one suspect ran away, and the other two left the scene in a Black Ford Mustang.
