BISD board set to vote on massive job cuts, closure of school
BEAUMONT - The Beaumont ISD board is scheduled to vote Monday night on a plan cut more than 200 jobs and close a school in order to reduce the budget by more than $25 million and avoid a deficit.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the BISD Administration Building. Our media partner, SET Investigates, is live streaming the meeting and we're posting a link that will allow you to watch the meeting.
The board is also scheduled to discuss appealing an Austin judge's denial last Friday of a Temporary Injunction. As KFDM News was first to report last Friday afternoon, the judge ruled against the district's motion to stop the Texas Education Agency from taking over BISD, including the appointment of a board of managers to replace trustees and a superintendent to replace Dr. Timothy Chargois.
The conservator, Fred Shafer, has ordered the board to allow citizen comment prior to the vote during Monday night's special meeting.
Shafer also ordered the superintendent to add more administrative positions to the Reduction in Force.
A majority of the nearly 250 proposed cuts would be teaching positions.
The board is also scheduled to vote on a plan to close Austin Middle School and put the Paul Brown Center and the Alternative School at the site.
