Higher moisture levels continue to move in off the Gulf which will result in mostly cloudy skies through Saturday. A few showers will be possible Friday with widespread showers and thunderstorms expected Saturday evening into Saturday night. Some of the storms could be severe.
Arrest made in connection with house fire
One person was arrested Thursday in connection with a house fire that occurred on May 26th, according to the Port Arthur Fire Department.
Fire Investigators with the Port Arthur Fire Marshals Office arrested Dat Pham, also known as Hung Nguyen, on an Arson warrant at approximately 4:00pm Thursday.
Pham is charged with atempting to set fire to a residence in the 3600 block of 9th Street in Port Arthur on May 26th, 2014. The owners of the home were not there at the time and there were no injuries due to the fire.
The fire burned out without causing significant damage to the home
The fire department was not notified at the time due to the fact that the fire burned itself out and the incident was discovered by Fire Investigators while investigating an intentionally set fire at a residence at 1021 9th Avenue on May 31, 2014.
There have been 11 intentionally set fires in this same area along 9th Avenue and Gulfway Drive since January 2014. Fire Investigators consider the majority of these fire to be related and are looking to file additional charges on these fire in the future.
Arson of a habitation is a 1st degree felony punishable by imprisonment of 5 to 99 years in jail. Pham has been arrested in 2005 and 2010 on Arson warrants in the past.
