KFDM News learns man charged with striking child, breaking arm, leaving bruises

JASPER COUNTY - KFDM News has learned the Jasper County Sheriff's Office charged a man with injury to a child in a case in which the sheriff tells KFDM News the man struck a 3-year-old boy with a piece of wood similar to a yardstick, causing a injuries including a broken arm and bruises, because the boy was crying.

Sheriff Mitchel Newman says Eric Mathew Bush, 20, is charged with Injury to a Child.

Newman says Bush is jailed on a $200,000 bond. If convicted he could face up to life in prison.

Newman says according to investigators, the child's mother dropped off the boy with Bush this week at his home outside of Kirbyville. Newman says Bush admitted using a piece of wood similar to a yardstick to strike the 3-year-old when the child began crying. Newman says the boy suffered a broken arm and bruises to most of his body, including his genitals.

Some brought the child to Baptist Hospital in Orange. Doctors contacted the Sheriff's Office when they saw the injuries.

The child is now out of the hospital and CPS has placed him.
