Drowning at Keith Lake Bridge

PORT ARTHUR- Port Arthur Fire and Police are investigating the drowning of a 22-year old man Saturday morning.

According to a Port Arthur dispatcher, police and fire responded to a call about a man in the water shortly after 7 a.m. Saturday on Keith Lake Bridge.

Port Arthur Fire Captain Troy Irvine said from their understanding, the man was on the pier fishing. When his pole fell in the water, the man jumped in after it. Irvine said the man struggled back to shore, but the current was strong and the man became fatigued and went under.

A witness told KFDM News the man was fishing when it started raining. The witness said the man went to get his rod and reels and fell in the water. The witness said someone went in after him, but the man went under.

Irvine said emergency workers recovered the man's body about 9:30 a.m. Saturday. A justice of the peace pronounced the man dead.
