GM Recall hits SETX
SOUR LAKE - By Justin Hinton, KFDM News
A Sour Lake woman is waiting to receive the ignition parts recalled through General Motors.
In the meantime, shes doing what the manufacturer told her, removing all items from the key ring, except for the key to the ignition.
All in all, I feel fairly safe with the changes Ive made per the manufacturers suggestion, said Lisa Uptigrove.
She says she feels safe but at the same time is frustrated.
Its easy to misplace one of the keys, she said. Im afraid Im going to lock myself out of the car.
Uptigrove says she bought her 2008 Chevy HHR from Sour Lake Motor Company a number of years ago, and started having problems two years ago.
Leaving my house and driving a short, less than a quarter of a mile, and I just lost power. Complete power. It stopped on me, she said.
It happened two more times and it wasnt until April that she learned of the problem.
Alan Adler with General Motors says of the 2.6 million recalled in North America in Uptigroves group, about 300,000 have been repaired.
He says the parts are being made and currently they have enough to cover roughly 2.2 million vehicles.
It typically takes 4-6 weeks, Adler said and all parts should be ready by October, though Uptigrove is hoping hers will be fixed much sooner.
Im waiting patiently.
After speaking with Adler, he said he needed a little information from Uptigrove and would expedite the process for her.
