Arrest warrant for babysitter accused of leaving loaded gun near child who shot and killed himself

ORANGE COUNTY - The Orange County Sheriff's Office has an arrest warrant for a woman accused of violating probation after she pleaded guilty to leaving a loaded gun near a child who accidentally shot and killed himself.

According to Chief Deputy Clint Hodgkinson, a warrant has been issued for the arrest of Melissa Ann Ringhardt, W/F, DOB 9-12-1994, for Motion to Revoke Probation (MTRP) for Endangering a Child.

The Chief Deputy says it's not a new Endangering a Child case but  a violation of the probation she received from the court for the original offense that occurred on 10-21-2013.

The warrant was issued for her arrest on June 25, 2014 when she failed to follow the conditions of her probation, said Hodgkinson.

Melissa Ringhardt was the babysitter accused of leaving a loaded gun accessible to five-year-old John Read. He accidentally shot himself and died on October 21, 2013.

Ringhardt reached a plea agreement on the case and a judge sentenced her to probation.

The Orange County Sheriffs Office say it has tried without success to find Ringhardt.

It is believed she could be in the Dallas area but she has yet to be located.
