Judge denies bond for Newton Co. murder suspect

NEWTON COUNTY - A Newton County judge has denied bond for a man charged with murder following a shooting death.

Newton County Sheriff Eddie Shannon said deputies arrested Timothy Jeane Jr., 27, Thursday night in the Pine Grove Community and took him to the Newton County Jail following a shooting.

The sheriff said deputies were called to the area around 11 p.m. July 3rd. When they arrived, investigators said they found Darren Jenkins, 31, with a gunshot wound to his head. He was taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital and died from his injuries Friday morning.

The Newton County Sheriff's Office initially charged Jeane with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, but after Jenkins died, the sheriff said the charge was upgraded to murder.

Deputies arrested a second man. The sheriff said William Sanders, 37, damaged a patrol car. Sanders is charged with criminal mischief, a state jail felony.
