Beaumont firefighters investigating two fires
Firefighters in Beaumont are investigating two separate fires. One forced a popular business to close for several days and another damaged a home and authorities say it may have been set.
Authorities say the second fire appears to be a case of arson. It charred much of the home in the 1600 block of Brooklyn. The fire was reported at about 11 p.m. Wednesday.
The house is vacant and electricity had been cut off but investigators believe someone deliberately set the fire.
Paramedics treated a fireman for a heat-related illness. He was taken to a hospital for observation.
And a fire has forced Mazzio's Pizza in Beaumont to close until sometime next week.
The fire was reported at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mazzio's in the 5000 block of the Eastex Freeway near Dowlen.
Investigators say roofers had been remodeling the building and after they left part of the roof began to smolder. The fire was quickly contained.
Customers evacuated the restaurant and no one was hurt.
The restaurant is closed and the manager tells us he expects to reopen sometime next week, but isn't sure of the exact date.
