Man charged with firing shots into home with children and engaging in hours-long standoff with deputies
JASPER COUNTY - by Mike Lout/KJAS and Rayburn Broadcasting Company
A Jasper man accused of shooting a gun in a house full of children and then holding holding officers at bay for several hours over the weekend has been officially charged and arraigned.
Aaron Glaspie, appeared before Jasper County Precinct 5 Justice of the Peace Brett Holloway on Tuesday and was charged with 5 counts of Abandonment/Endangering a Child in connection with the incident that occurred on Sunday morning on County Road 275, east of Jasper.
Jasper County Sheriff Mitchel Newman said officers were called to the location just after midnight when it was reported that Glaspie had fire at least three rounds in the home which was occupied by 5 children. However, Newman said none of the children were injured.
When officers arrived Glaspie reportedly barricaded himself inside the home and refused to come out until the early morning hours when he finally laid his weapon down and surrendered to authorities without any injury or incident.
Newman said that he and others believe Glaspie was high on drugs.
Bond on Glaspie was set at a total of $500,000.00.
