KFDM News learns TEA expects to appoint BISD Board of Managers "very soon" after July 10 Record Review if ruling is favorable to agency
BEAUMONT/AUSTIN - KFDM News has learned the Texas Commissioner of Education, Michael Williams, plans to formally announce a Board of Managers for the Beaumont ISD "very soon" after a July 10 Record Review, if the ruling is favorable to the agency.
A Record Review is set for July 10 in Austin, during which the district will ask a hearing examiner to overturn the decision of Commissioner Williams to replace trustees with a Board of Managers and replace the BISD Superintendent, Dr. Timothy Chargois.
The TEA spokesman says attorneys for the BISD board have indicated they are proceeding with plans for the Review.
Following another Record Review in June, a hearing examiner denied the district's arguments claiming the Commissioner erred in lowering the BISD accreditation to Accredited-Probation and elevating the monitor, Fred Shafer, to conservator.
A spokesman for the agency told us if the examiner rules favorably toward the agency following the July 10 review, Williams expects to make a formal announcement of a Board of Managers "very soon after that," based on circumstances in similar cases.
