Local man shot lands in jail

BEAUMONT- by Haley Bull

Police are investigating a shooting at the Pine Club apartment complex in Beaumont. Saturday.

Beaumont police said about 9:15 a.m. officers were called to the complex for a shooting victim. When they arrived, they said they found a 46-year old man with a gun shot wound in the upper thigh of his left leg.

Investigators said the victim told officers he was waiting outside for a friend to arrive, when a man came out from another apartment and shot him.

Witnesses had a different story.

Police said witnesses told them the victim had knocked on a door and was told to wait outside. While waiting, he turned to another apartment. Police said the victim and a person inside that apartment had words, the victim tried to go inside, that's when he was shot.

He was taken to Christus Hospital St.Elizabeth with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers said the victim had an outstanding warrant for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and was taken to the Jefferson County Jail once medically cleared.

The investigation is ongoing.
