Fire Suppression units of Beaumont Fire/Rescue responded to a report of a structure fire at 1120 Liveoak at about 7 a.m. They arrived to find the structure heavily involved by fire.

Firefighters began fighting the fire inside the home but the heavy flames and smoke forced them to get out.

They continued fighting the fire from outside the home and brought the flames under control within 15 minutes.

A smoke detector alerted the grandmother and grandfather, and their granddaughter, to the fire. They were able to escape and weren't hurt.

Investigators say a window air conditioning unit appears to have caused the fire.

The Red Cross is helping the occupants find a place to stay.

Firefighters say the fire illustrates the importance of smoke detectors in saving lives.
