Two educators from same district named Region 5 teachers of the year

SOUTHEAST TEXAS - from Region 5

For the second year in a row, a panel of judges from outside of the Southeast Texas area have named two local educators as Region 5 Teachers of the Year. It is rare for two teachers (one elementary and one secondary) to be named from the same school district out of the list of submitted applicants. Jasper ISD has now accomplished this amazing feat twice in two years.

This year's honorees are LORI BURTON, who teaches 1st and 2nd grade at Few Primary School, and LINDA O'BRIEN, an 11th and 12th grade science teacher from Jasper High School. Region 5 Education Service Center congratulates these two outstanding teachers, as well as their school principals and Superintendent, Dr. Richard Skuza, on this extraordinary accomplishment.

The two women were selected out of a group of fourteen applicants and/or nominations from eight Region 5 school districts and will go on to represent the very best of Region 5 educators, with the possibility of being named as the Elementary and Secondary Texas Teachers of the Year, at a special awards ceremony in Austin in October. They will also be honored locally at the October 8th Region 5 ESC Superintendent Meeting.
