Rotary Club encouraging children to read and to play

BEAUMONT - The Rotary Club of Beaumont is doing its part to encourage youngsters to pick up a book and read and also to get in some exercise on the playground.

Today was the first of what Rotarians hope will be many to come -- Read with Rotary events.

Cindy Cherry and Larry Beaulieu are in charge of the program aimed at encouraging children to read and spend time on the playground at the Beaumont Event Center.

"I think it's a wonder gift that we have in our community. Children need to both play outside, have fun, but they also need to understand that literature is another world for them and they can do that here with reading and then they can go exploring and playing with their friends," said parent Joyce Moore.

The Beaumont Rotary Club has made a commitment to encourage children to read.

The group will offer another Read with Rotary event next Monday.
