Two people rescue man when truck plunges into canal
PORT ARTHUR - Two people passing by the scene of an accident helped rescue a driver who was trapped in his truck after it left a Port Arthur highway and flipped upside down when it plunged into a canal.
A Port Arthur police officer tells our KFDM photographer at the scene that the driver of a Ford Ranger pickup was passing a car on Highway 82 near the Causeway Bridge on Pleasure Island at about 6:45 a.m. Thursday when he saw an oncoming vehicle approaching in the passing lane. He went off the road to avoid the vehicle and his truck hit nose first in a canal and then flipped over in shallow water.
Two people passing by stopped and helped pull out the pickup driver. He complained about a sore neck and was taken by ambulance to the Medical Center of Southeast Texas.
