Local vigil held for Michael Brown, Missouri teen killed by an officer
PORT ARTHUR - Almost two weeks after the death of Missouri teenager Michael Brown -- who was shot and killed by a police offer -- members of the Port Arthur community are remembering
the teen with a vigil.
A group called Pro-Act hosted the vigil and rally at Gilliam Circle Park.
The group says the purpose of the event is to remember not only Brown, but others who have also tragically died such as locals residents Alfred Martin and Dustin Glover.
About 50 community members, including Glover's family, attended the event.
The rally also was intended to raise awareness about police brutality and the complicated relationship between police and African Americans.
A member of the group says experiencing unfriendly encounters with police is a regular part of his life.
Group members say they will hold a forum next month to educate people on how to handle situation involving police officers.
