3-year-old killed by kick from horse

LIBERTY COUNTY - A three-year-old boy died when he was kicked by a horse Wednesday night in Liberty County.

Deputies say Colton Lee Clegg, was kicked in the chest when a male horse spooked. The young boy was transported by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he died Wednesday night.

Investigators say Colton's father and uncle were unloading horse feed from a truck on CR 6479, in South Liberty County, around 7:50 p.m. Wednesday. They say Colton was holding the gate for his uncle when one of the horses knocked a feed bag out of the uncle's hands, spilling the feed on the ground. Colton started to pick up the feed when his father hollered to Colton and told him to get away from the horses and spilled feed. Colton threw his hands into the air and investigators believe that spooked one of the horses which kicked Colton in his chest.

The father began driving his son to the hospital auto where he was met by Liberty County EMS which began medical procedures prior to the arrival of Life Flight.
