Justice of the peace talks with KFDM about his treatment for flesh-eating bacteria

ORANGE COUNTY - Orange County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Derry Dunn is recovering at Baptist Hospital Orange after he contracted the flesh-eating bacteria, an infection Dunn told KFDM's Haley Bull he never thought would happen to him.

Watch Haley's report tonight at 6 and her exclusive interview with Dunn, his wife and his doctor.

He's in good spirits and doing better since he was first admitted several days ago. At one point, doctors considered amputating his leg. His surgeon removed some tissue to help in the recovery.

Dunn told Haley he contracted the infection during an annual family reunion at the end of July at Crystal Beach.

He didn't have any open wounds he knew of and was in the water only about 15 minutes.

"You read all that stuff and when you read about it happening in Florida or Galveston, you go 'wow' that's really bad, tough luck for one of those people, but when they start talking about that's what's in your leg, you start going, 'ooh, this is not good,'" Dunn told Haley.
