Port Arthur Police investigate burglary and attempted robbery

PORT ARTHUR- Port Arthur Police are investigating a burglary and an attempted aggravated robbery early Sunday morning.

Investigators said they responded to an attempted aggravated robbery about 12:30 a.m. at the Fuel Depot at 700 W. Gulfway Dr. Officers said the clerk told them a man had entered the store trying to conceal his identity with a blanket, and showed a handgun. The clerk locked himself in the cashier's booth and hid. Investigators said the man tried to take the cash register but was unsuccessful. The man left the business before officers arrived and without any property.

A short time later, police said an officer dealt with a man who seemed to have his vehicle stuck in a ditch in the 3600 block of 9th Ave. about 3 a.m. While speaking with the man, police said they received a call for a burglary in the 3500 block of 9th Ave. Investigators said a witness saw people removing a refrigerator from the address. Officers said the refrigerator was found hidden in the woods, a short distance from the truck. Police said they arrested three people for burglary of habitation.
